Love how the experience is professional but also tailored to each individual with warming up, finding new ways to get stronger and for recordings so artists can practice. Phillip also provides positive reinforcement and building confidence for dancers seeking to better their vocal training. Highly recommend and love working with him!
Phil is an incredibly unique and intuitive teacher. He has a thorough understanding of the voice and how it can be best used in an easy and healthy way but he’s also a very thoughtful and caring soul, making his vocal lessons both comforting, joyful and life giving.
Philip is truly a ‘Voice Technician’. He is easily able to dive into each individual’s voice in a multifaceted way. He caters to any specific voice’s needs, as well as, relaying information in a language that the vocalist can simply understand. Working with Philip has been an ultimate pleasure! Thanks to Philip I have learned much more about my voice and its current development.
Philip is Wonderful! He pays real attention to your instrument, focusing on the gaps and helping you achieve your goals. I feel a very calm and relaxed atmosphere when we are working together. He’s reliable patient and can play the piano! Highly recommend him.
Philip is amazing! He has opened my mind to so many aspects of my voice that I have been missing. I am an EDM vocalist/recording artists and needed help! Philip has such a great knowledge of every aspect of singing and has helped me already after only 2 lessons. I am so excited to keep working with him and grow as a vocalist and artist
Philip is the best vocal coach I have ever had (and I’ve had many). He really takes the time to understand your specific needs and provide you with unique tools to succeed. He is very creative in his teaching methods, and I always feel like I have something to go home and work on. Could not recommend him anymore! His is the best place to go if you really want to see improvement.
I’ve been singing in pop/rock bands and in church setting for 15 years and I felt noticeably more confident and effective as a singer even after my first lesson with Philip. Earlier this year I was struggling with several voice problems and Philip quickly identified areas to begin working on, including breathing techniques, warm-ups, muscle stretching and even some psychology of a working singer. He’s patient and encouraging and has a strong grasp on the mechanics of voice as well as music theory. He’s also a kind and thoughtful person! I highly recommend Philip as a voice teacher and music specialist.
Working with Philip has transformed my understanding of my own voice and how to use it well and protect it. As someone who can tend to tighten up in order to manage my nerves, I have found his patient encouragement gives me confidence to risk being vulnerable and spontaneous, increasing passion and enjoyment in my singing.
Philip is more than amazing!! He goes above and beyond! He’s so consistent and always goes the extra mile! I’ve been experiencing some vocal health issues and he’s helped me every step of the way. One of the greatest people I’ve ever worked with!!
I started taking voice lessons again as self care. I had lost a lot of confidence with performing and wanted to get back to the basics and remind myself of the tools that I knew should still be accessible to me. Working with Philip has exceeded my expectations. He has helped me unpack some of the negative self-talk that had become habit. We’ve identified triggers and he has helped me work around them. Philip is quick to recognize when an exercise isn’t clicking just right for me or when I’m getting frustrated with myself. He is quick to encourage me and pivot. Philip has introduced me to many new tools and exercises that are easy to implement in my warm-ups, solo performances, and choral singing. So grateful to have the opportunity to work with him!
I have learned a lot from Philip about my voice and how to sing healthier while connecting to my passion for dance and movement. I continuously feel better about my voice and I’m grateful for his generosity in teaching me during this difficult year. I can’t wait to continue to learn more from him!
I’m so grateful for all the help Philip has given me!..Over the last few months, my weekly singing lessons have doubled up as speech and language therapy sessions tailored to my unique need.
After losing my voice twice in the last two years, my ENT diagnosed me with Reinke’s edema (vocal cord swelling) from overuse. I‘ve led a lot of worship and am in a gospel choir so singing is a big part of my life. I lost the higher half of my singing register and my confidence in the gift God had given me.
But over the last few months with Philip, I’m regaining that joy and confidence in my voice, I’ve sung notes I didn’t even know I had in me! and I’ve learnt so much about how to use my voice efficiently in the right way to produce a clearer sound.
Philip is the first voice teacher who has ever helped me understand my voice as a true instrument. He’s helped me build how to produce different sounds physically while staying connected to my musicality and artistic agency. He pushes me forward every lesson and I always leave excited to continue growing.
Philip has a discerning ear for identifying his students’ vocal needs and is apt at applying that knowledge to creating an individualized instruction in voice. With his guidance, I have found myself able to improve vocal flexibility while finding a way to create a relaxed and consistent sound. I highly recommend Philip to anyone looking to further their vocal education!
He has been my teacher for a year and the experience so far has been amazing! He is flexible with the schedules and knows exactly what you need to improve your voice and signing skills!
I show up to singing lessons in various states of tension, shyness, avoidance. Such is my current relationship with bringing my voice forward – into the air and out of my head.
I never know how I’m going to show up, but I ALWAYS know how Philip will. His presence is calming and firm (I can’t get away with stalling), and he tailors everything to how I’m feeling and what I want to work on (my range, if I got too excited singing all week and hurt myself, if I’m feeling blah and don’t know what the heck to do).
He’s a tinkerer – he switches small things in breathing and posture, and it unlocks my tense throat; it gives a pathway out to the sound that’d been hiding.
He is helping me to have a more compassionate relationship with my voice, and more patience with myself. I am learning to attend to my voice and it’s needs without judgement.
And HOLY MOSES does that make me sound better.
I was referred to Philip Skinner by an ENT doctor, who thought Philip could help me sing again. After a medical procedure, I awoke unable to carry a tune. In my youth, I recorded for a record producer; but for personal reasons, I decided against a career. As a military spouse, I sang for many functions. But when I came to Philip, first in person and now by FaceTime, I wanted to sing again. He has taken me from 5-note exercises to complicated exercises and I see light at the end of the tunnel: I’m starting to sing again! I’m not there yet, but with Philip’s and God’s help, I’m confident I will be. He helps with kindness and pure competence. I highly recommend him!
Just started lessons with Philip but he has been excellent in making me feel very comfortable and I’ve already noticed improvements in my technique particularly around improving the quality and freedom in using my head voice and mixed voice.
I would definitely recommend vocal lessons with Phillip!
